When doing a squirrel mount does the skin need to be pickled and tanned or on something this small will dry preservities work.

Borax will work fine just make sure that you remove all little bits of meat like you would while tanning a larger hide. Note:The little chunks are actualy easier to remove after applying the borax.
It's really not because of the size but with their thin skin and lack of large amounts of grease, borax alone will do - no need to pickle either. Now for a mink - basically same size - borax alone isn't enough.
I have done MANY squirrels using DP and it worrks great for them.
