bondo ear method for a howling wolf. Obviously there are no ear liners for howling wolves out there. How will I be sure that the ears are correctly positioned if I can't see what they will look like on the form? To what point should the bondo be spread when getting around the ear butt?

Use you eyes and use reference photos. YOu may even need to use clay for the ear butts. Look at Barnes and Noble, I found a great calender with 3 howling pics.

If the Bondo method doesn't appeal, try that. You can form them anyway you want by soaking them in solvent and allowing them to dry pre-positioned.
