Help with greasy looking bobcat!

Submitted by dom on 1/30/02. ( brendom@bcn.net ) 209.213.11.92

I just finished mounting a bobcat with Rittel's e-z-tan kit. It came out very nice but after I mounted it and it's begun to dry I'm noticing that the hair has a dirty/greasy look. It's not in the face area, that seems to look pretty good but the rest of the body hair is very greasy looking. The more I comb the less it seems to help. What do I do Next or let me know what I've done wrong.

Greasy look or feel?

Dom,

If it feels greasy, try wiping it down with mineral spirits. If it just looks greasy or flat, I usually take the air compressor and blow them to puff up the fur. That really makes a difference. Of course, if you are starting with a fur that is not fully prime, it can be tough to make it look great.

Tumble it?

This response submitted by Travis on 1/30/02. ( ) 12.13.248.3

Did ya tumble the skin after ya tanned it...It`ll help remove any excess
oils, tanning agents...Makes all the difference in the world. I mounted over 40
bobcats last year and have never had one turn out greasy? Research
manikins sells hardwood saw dust and it does a super job...if ya don`t have a
tumbler just bag it up and throw it in the clothes dryer on the air cycle(no heat)..
after mounting it up take the high airpressure to the fur as mentioned above

If it's already mounted ot's too late to tumble but

the recipe above on "first deer mount" will work well
