I am doing my first rug and the hide has a few small holes about the size of a quarter in the thin areas. I am wondering what I should do to repair them so that they are the least visible from both sides. Any Suggestions are much appreciated.

Use your smallest tri corner needle, do you have the one inch size? Then use a quilting thread in a shade that best matches the hide, and proceed to sew the hole shut on the underside, in TIGHT small stitches. Pound the seam flat with a mallet and it should be fairly unoticeable on the show side. SMALL TIGHT stitches!
I like to sew, but if there is an even less visual way of doing this, that stands up to time, I'd be interested in hearing it as well!
That is what I had in mind but it is always nice to be reassured!
