I am also thinking of a career in wildlife/ nature photography (as well as taxidermy), but how would I get started?

I would say that most of us started out part time, while we had other jobs. When the work load became too much we went full time. Wildlife photography is the same, I have a friend who is good at it but it took him 20 years to get away from his "real" job. Good Luck.
