I just finished a large diorama of red foxes. male above on bank bringing prey, female sh.mt crawling out of den and 1 pup sitting/playing,all in glass display case. Anyway I just have to put the "prey" on the ground and can't decide what to use. What would be the "ultimate" for a fox to bring to den. would prefer a bird but consider mammal too. Thanks for ideas/opinions.

The ultimate prey for a fox is a field mouse. A squirrel would probably work good.
Try a chipmunk...works real well
I dare you to put in a house cat.
R. Fox prey take significant numbers of nesting puddle ducks. A mallard might seem like overkill in terms of dominating the scene. However, a teal would look nice in my opinion.
