leopard skin in the family, how can I value it?

Hello hope you can help me. My father recieved in the mid sixties a leopard skin from his business associates in Kenya. It has no paws/claws nor does it have a skull for the head but more of a "flattened" head is the best way to describe it. It's in excellent condition from head to tail as it has been in storage mamy years. It also has a full felt bottom bordering the skin. My question is we are considering selling it, however we have no idea of the value and the legality of selling it, nor where to sell it.
can you give us guestamite of what it's worth as well as the problems if any selling the skin.

Thank You,
Marshall

Marshal-I am not an expert, but i believe the laws pertaining to your question will very from state to state. Just call your local fish and game office. They will have an officer who is familiar with the legalities of buying selling animal skins parts, etc. They will tell you if its legal to sell it where you are at-I live in Washington State-Spokane. It's illegal to sell cougar skins here-but 30 miles east of where i live is Idaho-where it is legal.
As far as what the skin is worth-probably not a whole lot, but dont let me discourage you, I will just guess 400-500 hundred minumum, but you may certainly get more if it's really beautiful and well presented-and you are not in a hurry to sell it. Try selling it in the local newspaper if you live in a large city-advirtise it in the guns section of the paper-you will target a good audience of prospective buyers. You can try an on-line auction site-but then be sure to check the rules of the site pertaining to legalities-I believe ebay will forbid it-but it may be ok on other sites-the site you choose will tell you, or just post it and if its illegal-they will just close the auction and give you a written spanking. Good luck! The Animalboy.
