coyote for decoys....

i am thinking about mounting a coyote for a decoy to use when coyote hunting. i have basic knowledge of what i need to do. what would your suggestion be for the skin preservitives. would it be o.k. to use borax if not what do you suggest? what pose would you use? would it be aggressive or inferior style pose? i recently shot a coyote that had been rubbing his fur and it is not the best looking hide so i have yet to skin him. he will be my candidate for this decoy making operation. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks randy.

Merta, you could probably use borax, but I would think you might have problems when the coyote would get damp , causing the borax to leach out of the hide, but if you're just using it for a decoy-just go for it, if nothing else it will be a learning experience.I would probably go for a less agressive pose so you don't scare off any "shy" one's.

We use this all the time, we just attach a Tanned squirrel skin and drill a small hole to fit a spring into like you can get at the hardware stores and stick the spring on a dowel and stick it in the groud and turn it on and do some calling and they run right in to it.We even had one of them yotes take off with one. We laughed so hard watching him as it almost beat him to death before he got lose from it.
