Do you have to split squirrel eyelids?

I just recieved my sallie dahmes squirrel mounting video from WASCO. It was very informative and helped out with a lot of my questions. But she did not split the eyelids or say that its optional. Do i need to split the eyelids and how would i go about doing this.

It is an option on tree rats. If your going into compitition I would but just for a comericial mount leave as is.
