First Lifesize bear..hair loose

Submitted by Aaron L. on 01/22/2003. ( aj@charter.net ) 198.140.4.205

Just finished mounting my first life size bear last week. The hair on the thing isn't really slipping, but is loose. If I brush it, a lot of hair comes out around the shoulder area. I'm fairly confident that in a week or two, it will dry enough to lock that hair in...My question is, Is this normal for bear? I'm a little scared I may have shaved the hide too thin here and that is the cause of the loose hair.
Oh, it was a wet tan by the way. Thanks.

Is this a DP mount? If so, yes it's normal but so will the gut wretching smell be in a few months. If it's tanned, it could be a case of hair follicles being shaved off at the tannery. Some hair loss can be expected as a result, but the rest of the hair should be solid no matter what.

George you need to put on those specks buddy LOL it's a wet tan.

If the hair is coming out like you stated you probally shaved it a bit thin. As long as it's not making it bare you'll be fine. It's a normal process for some hair to come out if the hide was shaved thin. If you used a good hide paste and enough of it to catch these loose hairs you'll be fine.
