What is the best way to do a squirrels mouth, I have been sewing it shut and it doesn't look right. Can you glue it, and tuck it? The only way I have gotten around this is to put a nut in its mouth.
Thanks,
Bill

Do just like you would any other furred animal. Cut the mouth recess, tuck the split lips into the slot, and glue in place with Epo-Grip hide paste. Id doing an open mouth, and using the real skull, rebuild up the fleshyness of the lips with clay, and taxi the skin over and finish like any other mount. What is the difference between how you do a squirrel and a racoon, or anything else. It is just on a smaller scale
One thing that helped me was when I used a death mask,I saw where everything is supposed to go ,no guessing.
Hi Bill, A easy way to do a close mouth squirrel is to remove the lower jaw from the form and throw away. You can now shape the upper mouth of the form to accept the skin. Now by using either clay or apoxie sculpt, just insert the clay or apxoie sculpt into the lower jaw area of the skin, put back onto form and shape accordingly. You will now be able to create a real soft and natural look on the squirrels mounth. Good luck.
