Whenever I do a dorsal incision I start at the back of the head and go down the neck to the back of the body.
Whenever I do a dorsal incision on a large mammal I start at the back of the head and go down the neck to the back of the body. Every several inches I will make a small cross cut so I am able to align the skin exactly to same position it was prior. If it is a small mammal you do it in a smaller scale. I then skin the animals down to the legs as far as possible. As for the legs and feet, I make cuts in the back of the legs as long as I need to remove the feet. Good Luck
i would say step back and look at your pose, you may be able to make a very small dorsal if you could cut your form , you can mount numerous mounts with just a 8 inch shoulder dorsal , and it makes for a very neat mount , less seam !,,,,as for where to start, i usually dont like to go up the neck area , i start at neck/shoulder connection , hope this helps ya out , im sure you will do just fine , thanx ed
If you are trying the dorsal for convinience, speed, and less sewing....think about a case skin. You can mount any pose with it, all it takes is some cutting and bondoing.
Please help me, I am trying to figure out how to make skins so they are soft enough to be used as blankets, make a quiver or just use for decoration. Every were I look they talk about Pickling, Fleshing, Tanning, Oiling, Rehydrating, and Degreasing. I'm just starting to get into the sport of hunting. I'm only 18 and don't have a hole lot of money to throw around. So I kind of need an efficient way to do this like by posobly using house hold suplys and still making it the best it can be. What I need is for some one to put into laymens terms what I need to do to preserve these beautiful skins or please give me some derection were to find this information. I'm all about natural hunting and using as much of the animal as I can. Call it the Indian in me. I would like to make a quiver, and maybe an arm gard for my long bow. So if you know what is the best way to make and sew thing with lether and could let me know I would appreciate that as well. If you could help me and put it in as low of laymens terms as possible that would be greaty appreciated. Thank you so much for being here and taking your time to answer.
Please, & Thank you Graham
