I read some posts about tucking the lips of a squirrel in which the form showed where the teeth should be and the response to it was to insert real squirrel teeth into that gap. I was wondering if this can be done after the squirrel has already been mounted or is that a problem? Im planning to mount my squirrel Saturday and have not yet aquired a set of teeth. Im thinking about searching for a road kill squirrel for a donor or ordering a set from Van Dykes but I may not accomplish either before Saturday, should I postpone mounting my squirrel or proceed and put in the teeth when I aquire them?
Thanks

Go ahead and mount your squirrel. You can use an awl and set teeth after your mount has been completed. When I'm mounting a squirrel, I skin it out down the jaw line very carefully and I take a pair of dykes and snip the ends of the jaw off with the teeth attached. I carefully clean around them and the nose, put a spot of clay under the skin and mount the squirrel. On the mannikin, I Dremel out the nose and top teeth area as well as a small indentation for the bottome teeth. I put a spot of clay in the bottom teeth hole, and mount. Then after I have pinned the interior mouth in place, I adjust the teeth sets in their clay beds. This gives a more realistic finish to the completed mount in my way of thinking.
I had to read that a few times for it to soak in but I see what you are doing and it sounds very realistic to me. Im looking foreward to trying it out.
