I am not going to mount but hopefully will case skin a coyote that I will hopefully shoot soon. I was just wondering how hard it is to skin a coyote tail, and how do tail strippers really work? I have seen them on the internet and cant quite see how it would be different from just pulling the cartilidge out with my hand.

To not use a tail skinner is a recipe for disaster. They don' need to be fancy two pieces of one by two will work, but use something.

very simply to make and use. get a piece of hardwood approx. 1x 2 inch
drill a hole in the center large enough to handle a tail bone. Then cut the wood in half long ways through the center of the hole and viola one tail stripper. cost about 10 cents. To use it simpliy place your tail bone between the pieces of wood where you have you hole and gentley but firmly ease the tail bone out. It may be necessary to skin the tail down slightly maybe three or four inches. Take your time or you will have to sew your tail back on or together.
I dont mind making things esecially if it is that easy and I dont have to buy anything! thanks a lot
after removing the bone you will need to split it open to salt. i found that a letter opener works great. the letter opener is the kind that has a razor blade in it with a point that you slide under the flap of the envolope and push untill you cut the letter open with the blade. most will hang on your freezer with a magnet and are very thin. i modifided one by shorting the point so i could cut the tail farther toward the tip or end. hope this makes sense.
Sportingly,
Mark
