I like to look at other mounts and compare them to mine. One thing I notice is that alot of them like bobcats and the such seem to have like a black clay in their eye duct where it draws out toward the nose. What is this. I have been doing taxidermy for a while now, but have a problem of tacking the skin too tight around the eye. I would like the eye to draw out like that.
Thanks for the help

It's the skin of the animal that goes there and then they must have painted it black.
I don't know why your skin is that tight around the eye. It could be and seams to be misaligned hair pattern or to much clay build up (which I don't think it is)
A major fault with many taxidermists and (I was one of them) is we pull the skin back to far and it needs to be pulled forward. Yep this will give you excess skin in the front but you will be amazed on how the hair patterns start to get together and make the mammal look more life like. (this seams to be your problem)
Also having good reference in front of you will help out a great deal. Having reference is one of the main keys in doing quality work.
Frank,
Thanks for your reply. The more I think about it, it was probably a thick paint like acrylic that was painted on that excess skin in front of the eye. There was only a minute gap that they seemed to close with paint.
