I'm sure its been covered but not much.I have a friend that has a BIG Rottweiler .He asked me if i could mount it for him when its time. I know there are a few guys out there who specialize in pets ,just wondering if there are any special permits I'd need to have to do pets. Also ,I realize its is all custom work ,how would I start to figure out what to charge him, since most likely I'd have to carcas cast .Its only to be a shoulder mount.

I have never heard of any special permit needed. It the owners choice of what he does with the dead animal.

i doubt there is any special permits that you will need. i know in Va you dont need one and we are pretty conservative about everything. so your probably ok.

Thereare no permits needed on domestic pets. We do about 5-7 a month between retail and wholesale. We freeze dry ours and have a wholesale fivision for freeze dry services on all. We also conventionally mount you "normals" but all pets are freeze dried. We have a studio with three full time taxidermists and along with our retail work offer wholesaling of waterfowl, fish and freeze drying. On our pets we here cahrge a $300 min and $45 per pound for retail and for wholesale it is still the min but $25 per pound for all active taxidermists.

$45 A POUND?

Am I correct? If you mount or freeze dry an Adult English Mastiff domestic dog on the scale at 250 lbs your rate at $45 per pound retail figures in my head at $11,250 or whole sale @ $25 per pound figures in my head at $6,250! You may be in ARUBA sipping a Carona with no cell phone Retired if you get them big ones at that rate? 5-7 a mo. Won't take long!(LOL) Rich

Let's just hope that those rates..

apply to "after" it is dried. Subtract 75%?
