measuring tanned hides

I am getting a lifesize coyote to do a lifesize mount, but do not have original measurements. Can I measure a wet tanned hide somehow to get close to what I have to order for a form? thanks.

Coyote measurements on wet tanned skin

Dale, Sure you can, but remember that the skin may be streatched lengthwise which will cause the skin to "thin out" in the girth. I would streatch it for width and then lay out and take the measurements. The job can be very difficult if you get a form that is even a little too long as nothing will fit well. Better to have a form 2" shorter especially since you are working from tanned skin measurements. Enjoy, Aaron H.
