Correct placement of coon ears

I just returned fromn the Pa. show in which I entered a red fox. Jason Snowberger judged the piece and mentioned the ear opening should sit just above(1/8 inch)the skull. It is very difficult to see this in reference photos and would not know this unless critiqued by Jason. Would it be safe to say racoon ears should sit on the skull in a similar manner. I don't have a coon to see how they set but you can bet this is something I will pay attention to on the next coon I skin. Thanks in advance.

Jason is certainly right about where the ear butts fit. Just feel the ear before you skin an animal out. If you have pets, check them out as well. It's all on top of the skull and slides easily around the orbit of the ear butt. Jason probably has a chart where he's actually measured them all and his measurements are pretty close I suspect. LOL
