Finishing Beaver Tail

Submitted by Phil on 04/22/2003. ( ) 207.42.62.120

Recently mounted my first life size beaver, and have gotten to the finishing stage. I used a artificial tail. I think I have the feet, lips, etc. figured out, but do I paint the tail? If so, what color and in what pattern? Cannot find reference that shows very much of the tail.

Someone from NY has their panties in a bunch today! He asked how to FINISH a beaver tail, not fish with/for one. DUH, you can read, eh! hehe! Anyway, this is a kid friendly forum and we do not appreciate your language, Brooke. Go get a life.

To answer your question about the tail : go grab a real tail and check it out. How are you going to get the little hairs back in? Paint it a deep sepia brown to blackish color, of course darker where it's thicker. Make sure to use a couple of coats of matte finish clear, so you increase the lifelike appearance.
