otters

just learning this great art and trying to get my hands on anything I can, was talking to a trapper down the road and he said he trapped a few river otters last season and if I wanted one I could have one but I live in Ill and was wondering are they leagle?

Otters require a CITIES tag to be sold.......

Otters require a CITIES tag to be sold, and in most states they are mandatory wether you plan on selling the otter or not. If it isn't tagged I would require it to be before the purchase. You can owne otters even in states with no otter season, as long as it was legally harvested in an area with an otter season.

Otters can not be legally posessed in IL unless they are from another state and all documentation is in order. It is unlawful to pick them up as road kills or by any other means. If your friend has trapped them in IL he can not legally posess them. IL does not issue tags to anyone except educational institutions.
