I think that you are all insane! People are so stupid, using raccoons as a profit! You can almost consider your self a MILL! You CAN NOT keep a wild raccoon as a pet! I have raised raccoons for the last 10 years! Yes I have been attached to every single one of them. But I know what is right. Every raccoon that I had has been raised and released back into the wild where they belong. I think that it is unfair. Raccoons are WILD animals and not to be sold as pets. It's very inhumane to keep an wild animal as a pet! They belong into the wild!

baby charlie

This response submitted by kate on 07/29/2003. ( hidy_d@yahoo.com ) 67.73.178.232

Charlie is my baby girl i found her along side the road her brothers and sisters were hit and at first i didnt see the mom but then i looked across the street she was dead. Charlie was the only one who survived. she has lived with my family for about 2 1/2 months now. im really sad that i have to get rid of her but my mom said i could only keep her till agust. I also have to tell the people that keeping a raccoon for a pet is not a crime if you have papers plus once you raise a baby its going to get used to eat out of a dish. and if you let it out in the wild it will die. its not going to know how to eat. i found charlie by accedent. yeah charlie may be wild but shes like a tame rabbit you cant let it go shill die.

Very Angry Wild Life Rehab Responds!

This response submitted by Cute little creatures on 08/14/2003. ( carnflowers82@hotmail.com ) 12.206.58.135

Yes they are cute little creatures. I would love to keep every single one of them. That's why you take pictures, and you hope for the best for eveyone of them!

I have been raising them for the last 10 years. It kinda sucks that you have to let them go after spending so much time, money etc. But there comes a point in life where it's just not fair. You can't always have you way. If everyone had their way in life, there would be nothing to talk about and this world would become boring!

I can state my own opinion, there is nothing on this website stating otherwise. I have a permit to raise and release wildlife, and it states clearly. You can raise baby fauna, but must be let go and not to be kept as a pet. If you don't believe me leave your name an address and I will be more then happy to MAIL it to you.

- A concerned wild life rehab

Feel free to email me. But nobody and stop me from my opinion!

GO HUG A TREE
look, i had a baby as well but i could not release it to the wild because its mother was killed and it was so young it's eyes weren't open yet we nursed it and it loved us as its parents and lived longer then most raccoons do it even left us once and went in the woods but quess what it came back. it was not unhappy at all. it went where it please was house trained so before you shoot your mouth off about how unfair it is hear all the fact.
**I am sure it was very unhappy not having to hunt for its food or look for shelter**

This response submitted by Kera on 09/10/2003. ( CoastieTakacsGirl@yahoo.com ) 141.157.242.146

Hey, Just chill out. No one wants to hurt the Raccoons, they just want lovable companions. I found three abandoned Mallard eggs in my boat about 4 years ago and decided to attempt to hatch them. Fortunately they lived 1 male and two females. Yes they're mother was wild, and they were in a sense too. But after being taken care of by a human, with a dog and cat as roommates, it was impossible to release them. They didn't want to leave, I tried letting them go. Plus it was more hazardous that they trusted people(ex: Hunters, dogs, cats). They would have died. So, Nikki, Ana & Jeter all live with me. For them it is the best. And if a Raccoon is found at a young age with no parents etc.... it will never know the difference between being tame and wild. But it will be taken very good care of and be loved.

Raccoons are Cool

This response submitted by none of your business on 09/30/2003. ( none ) 209.184.112.50

I think raccoons are sweet. I found a baby raccoon at Canyon Lake once, it came right up to me. I nursed it back to health. I think it's mother abandoned him because he was very skinny and hungry. At first it was wild, but after it realized we were only trying to help,
it became tame after awhile. Rocky is his name and till this day he lives with us. I live on 10 acres and Rocky even attracted other raccoons, so we have a whole family of tamed raccoons. They are really cute and make entertaining pets!

for Very Angry Wild Life Rehab

This response submitted by Retired wild life rehabilitator on 10/05/2003. ( ) 12.223.119.67

Well - you'd better reread your rehab manual because you said you were "attached to every single one of them" it sounds like you developed a relationship with your racoons which is forbidden for a rehabilitator who is to go to great length t oavoid attachment to wild animals or them to you - actually you are suppose to minimize human contact from the start even using racoon "puppets" to handle them if necessary and when released they should fear humans not be attached to them. Maybe you should just get out of rehab and keep one as a pet - what you are doing is having a new pet racoon every year. You are lucky racoons are one of the few aniomals that can be raiseed in captivity and still have no problem reverting to the wild.

In California you must have a permit to have a racoon. I want to purchase one also, but will be moving to Washington state and they are not allowed as pets there...So, I wont be getting one because I know I will have to give it up, and I can't do that.

But be careful they are rather aggressive.

Looking for a Bottlefed Baby Raccoon

This response submitted by email @ fire35@hky.com on 12/10/2003. ( fire35@hky.com ) 206.24.8.74

My husband brought home 2 baby raccoons, the mother was dead on the ground below them. What are u to do, leave them trying to crawl from a tree and die, or take them home and try to help them ?. He brought them home, and I have to admit i was scared at first of them, untill i fell in love with them and nursed them and took care of them and played with them, they LOVED bath time in the water. Then came to the time we had to let them go. It broke my heart into a million pieces, ever though i knew we had to. So i feel if you have the time and compassion to try to raise a raccoon so it wont die due to its mother not surviving due to some circumstance, do it and be proud of helping an animal live , that would not have had the chnce to do if you wasnt there. This is why i am loving surching for a baby raccoon to raise and love for my own.

I WANT A BABY RACCOON TO NAME LEGO

This response submitted by yvonne on 01/17/2004. ( ToXiKKcHeRii ) 152.163.252.163

hey, i am looking for a baby raccoon.I am willing to pay up to $100. i really love raccoons and know i would have a loving family to help take great care of it.I live in maryland, and would love to own one. so please if u have any information on how to get a permit or u have babies, please contact me. i would really appreciate it. thanks alot,
concerned racccoon lover.
o and to the angry rehab i think that since everything started out as a wild animal you should give raccoons the chance to be loved and cared for.i mean humans are like racccoons, there are some of us that have loving families and some of us that don't. some are orphanes and need care and will do anything to desperatly have it.And yet there are others that have families but need something different and someone to reach out and give them what they never had. I think before you go running your mouth you really need to take the time and think about things before you say that no wild life should be kept as a pet.
and still if u own a wild animal yes it should have access to its natural environment.I know if you never had the abounding parent love in your life u would want it desperatly. So just consider thinking about it,some really do need your help.

I feel it is unwise to remove racoons or any wildlife from the wild. I also work in rehab and I realize that no matter how "tame" an animal,it is still very wild. Take this for an example: I have worked with a particular group of racoons for about three years. Last week I was seriously bitten by one. Why, I do not know, but this should prove that there are no tame animals. I should also add that I have worked with these animals for three years and have never had a problem. I feel compelled to question the logic behinfd having a "domesticated " wild animal as a family pet. I understand that there is the possibilty that all racoon lovers across the world are blazing a trail for the racoon to become the new household pet, but I seriously doubt that. I feel that keepig these animals is doing them a diservice more so that helping them. Thse animals have been surviving in the wild for much longer that the human race has been around. If one notices, in history, most of the meddling that humanity has invloved nature in has ended in hurting nature. One also needs to realize that animals as science understand them are not capabe of complex emotion. By that I mean love, hate, exc. They are interested in one of two things.
1) Is this large creature going to hurt me?
or, 2) Is this large creature going to give me food?

One may argue that it loves me becuase it stays in my house and doesn't leave. The only reason it stays is because of a steady source of food and a warm shelter. Remove that and you remove the racoons presence. Also since , animals are not capable of complex emotion, that excludes friendship as well. If you are looking for a friend go by a dog. They are relatively unitelligent and should pose no problem in be befriended. One last thing, alot of people have brains, that doesn't make them good people either. Enjoy.

Expierienced Raccoon owner

I have had 2 raccoons as family members, BECAUSE THESE ARE NOT TO BE TREATED AS PETS!
if you get one you will see why , they are loyal, fun & they do not react good around strangers, but family members are exactly that, and treated as such, I have 3 kids ranging from 3-6 yrs old and never had a problem.
if you still have babies available I am intrested.

Look guys, this poor man wants to run his business. He wants to stuff your coons. Quit posting here. Also there should be some law against kids posting because I am seriously seeking a racoon and can't get through all the jumbled thoughts of children who want somthing cute and cuddly but probably will wind up with mommy cleaning the cage! I feel sorry for you bud. Mabye you should start selling live coons, It looks like there is quite a demand LOL

look to a fur farm if you want a legal live raccoon

This response submitted by conservationist on 01/29/2004. ( ) 170.215.142.151

Listen folks if you are serious about buying a raccoon. A fur farm may be your best bet. Some fur ranches still raise raccoons. They have all the proper permits and I am sure can sell you a raccoon. Finding a baby raccoon and keeping it is illegal as well as selling a game animal in most states without proper permits. If you find one you should contact your local game warden or conservation officer.

Last summer I picked up a baby raccoon that was hit by a car, she is now much better and started to play with me and my cats.I would consider in adopting another raccoon to be company for her.
