Can I rehydrate the ears and face to shape, and do I just use water? Thank you.

You didn't state whether the cape or skin is mounted or as a rug or just tanned skin alone.
Yes...wrap the ears and face with very damp rags and place a plastic bag around it...do not tie it shut, though...until rehydrated sufficiently to do the reshaping you desire.

They are just tanned hides to be sold, but I wanted to improve the appearance.
Go right ahead and do the rehydrating bit, reshape and let dry.
