I'm doing my first bear rug, was wondering how to figure out how much felt to order. Thanks

Rug felt

Robert, Most suppliers sell in whole yards only. If the bear is 5 feet nose to tail after stretching and drying you need 2 yards of 72" felt for one layer. Bears more than 5 1/2 feet will measure about the same across the width of the front legs so I turn the felt to run long way across the width of the bear. This requires you to "piece" the felt under the head as I have not encountered any felt wider than 72". On these big bears you will buy 3 yards and use the scraps as padding under small animal bases. How much of a border you choose to show around the edge is your choice so be sure that you allow for this extra length and width of fabric. Always better to have more than you need than too little. Enjoy, Aaron H.
