I saw a dog like animal in a field of the Adirondacks. It was about the size of a fox but with a long straight tail. It appeared almost to have some kanagooish qualities to the back legs. Someone thought that it was a coydog, but I had seen one before and I'm pretty sure it was not a coydog!

what color was it. if it was black that could be it.
We have loads of Coydogs round here - and each litter can look a lil different - it depends largely on the breed of domestic dog the female Yote bred with... If she made friends with lab or a rotty - it could have that straightish tail... just food for thought =)
You guys know MY theory on that, hahaha. Ill be willing to bet you saw a red fox with mange, as they often lose the hair off the tail and it then looks long and skinny. Hardly any hair makes it appear like a fox, but something isnt quite right when you just get a glimpse. Of course, we werent there, so my guess is just that, a guess!
Probably a arab peacock in heat.

I have some nice pics of a 44lb. all black female (no white chevron) I shot last winter if anyone is interested.
I grew up in Northern NY - family still there. Nobody calls a coyote a coyote up there! Heck I'd have to say it's impossible to have a 'coydog' up there because according to the natives there are no coyotes to breed a domestic dog to begin with.
I'll side with Yox on this one sounds like a fox with mange.
Im betting some liberal tree hugger shaved his shepard, dyed his fur, ect ect, and turned him loose with a few imported unidentified african lynx hairs properly placed in some dog/deer/cat feces mixture so they can report that a new breed of animal near extinction is thriving in the area so they can close down another 10,00 acres of land to hunt to protect the dman thing LOl Sound familiar?
Take a look at the pix posted on this forum message. May be similar to what you saw!
