Shane;
I wouldn't use denature alcohol on your squirrel. Just skin the feet down to the last knuckle and scrape down the pad. What ever your going to use for tanning the skin, or if your just going to use DP. That will take care of it. You should purchase the Breakthrough Manual "Mammal Taxidermy". There's a lot of great info in there about mounting a squirrel.....Good luck with your squirrel.

No denatured? I have had 3 or 4 people tell me denatured alchohol is the only way to go, they say you get a good hair set and the best preserve, I am lost now!

Shane;

Denature alcohol is not a preservative. It will help to tighten up the hair follicles on a hide, but it is not a preservative. I would use regular Borax, or some other type of DP. I myself preferr to tan my squirrels.

im interested in that manual

Yah im wondering where i can find that manual. I am a boy who has to write a report for school and also i want to know more about taxidermy. I have tanned several hides, with several different methods. I think i have finally figured out some good ways. But am interested. Would it help me? I do know quite a bit, but not quite enough to start a project.
thanks

I swear I've seen that manual before, and I'm almost positive its on either taxidermy.com (WASCO's website) or Van Dykestaxidermy.com. Good luck.
