Advice needed on hanging a bearskin rug on the wall

Submitted by c on 08/23/2003. ( cconant@nyc.rr.com ) 66.108.96.219

What is the best hanging technique for making a wall hanging out of a bearskin rug? Is there a special kind of hook or ring? how does it attach to the felt? How do I displace the weight of the rug, and keep the shape?

thanks, c

Figure out where you want to hang the bear. Locate the studs in the wall. Mark those loctions on the appropriate spots on the bear. Attach the hangers to the bear at those spots. DO NOT ATTACH TO THE FELT, there is no strength in felt, you will have to sew through the leather of the bear skin.

OR

Locate the studs, nail the bear to the studs with 8d finishing nails, right throught the SKIN not the felt. Removal is easy, the bear skin will slide off the finish nails and then the nails can be pulled out of the wall.

Hanging Rugs

I have found that only hanging at a few points never allows the rug to hang flat. There`s always a few ripples or wrinkles. Try cutting a full size template of the hide (not including the felt) out of thin plywood or wall panel (1/8"). Staple or tack the rug to the wood, through the leather not the felt as O.F. says. Locate the studs and hang accordingly through the wood. The rug hangs flat,it`s easy to take down for cleaning and works for all types of rugs. The exception being the large bears over 8' long
