I do a small amount of coyote hunting, but would rather pay to have the pelts tanned, than do it myself. I have two questions:
First, I'm not an expert at skinning, I do fine around the body and legs, but the feet and head give me real problems - as taxidermist how much skinning would you like done by someone who is likely to leave a few holes in the skin (like me)?
Second, and I'm only looking for ball park prices, but based on your answer to the first question, how much should I expect to pay to have a pelt tanned and ready for either a rug mount or body mount?
Thanks I know this isn't directly related to the forum subject, but I'm hoping someone can give me some answers.

We charge $60.00 to take a carcass coyote to the tanned and ready to mount stage. Personally I would rather skin the whole carcass from the start. You really aren't saving me much time by skinning out the body, especially if you detach the skull and leave it unskinned. By the time I fix your holes I have saved no time. If you are making a few too many holes then you are using your knife too much. Most furbearers can be skinned by pulling by hand the majority of the time and using a knife only when necessary. I would say if you are paying in the range of $60-$70 you are not paying too much.
