I took in a bear tree weeks ago that came in thawed it the guy told me it had been frozen when he left canada and it thawed out on the way home.
So I took his word for it and had done thing for this persone in the past so I know he knows how to care for his game.
This is for a rug mount, well I got the animal ready for tan and it looked good then but I seen something funny on the back that looked like a scar.
So the tanner calls and said that hair is falling out in a 2 foot long section by a 10 wide section.
So I called the guy and told him about it and we came to the conclusion that it was a rub any way he is ok with it
But my question is how can I fix this for a rug he still wants.
I know I have to cut this area out and sew it up but is there any other way to fix it or stop the rest of the hair to fall out.
Thank
Mike

If the hide is tanned, and that is the only area that the hair has slipped from, chances are that it will be OK over the rest of the hide. I would remove the slipped area, And sew in a peace of hide making sure to match the hair in length and texture. Carefully sewing with close stitches will be undetectable. By doing this the rug will be uniformed, and the shape will be proper.
