Turning Fawn Ears

Yesterday I prepped a WT fawn intended for a nature center diorama. I hadn't done a fawn before and was concerned about turning the thin, delicate ears. How I turneded them is not particularly new but probably worth describing here. I used a #11 blade to open the ears about 1/4 inch. A 20cc syringe and 16 ga. needle filled with water was inserted at the point of the end of the opening with the neddle under the skin on the back of the ear and the needle bevel against the carilage. The water was injected with moderate pressure to form a nice bubble between the skin and cartilage. I then inserted my thumb into this bubble and pushed to the tip of the ear while fanning my thumb back and forth from border to border. The ear opened very nicely and quickly. The whole procedure took only about 2 minutes per ear.
