Roadkill Roadtrip

Submitted by Chris Richardson on 09/02/2003. ( xpopher@rogershsa.com ) 65.74.9.203

I shall be traveling from Alaska to Oklahoma this September and will be taking roadkill when I find it fresh. I am traveling by motorbike/sidecar and will be taking plenty of salt with me for hide preservation. I am also thinking of taking my vacuum sealer with me so as to "seal" skulls along the way. I am in contact with all fish/wildlife authorities along the way for permits and am posting here in the hopes that I may get some hints/tips/suggestions as to how to care for my hides on this long trip. I figure I'll just salt until dry and then stuff them in a pannier. Any advice will be appreciated, not necessarily followed.

You may find some things really worth keeping. I have often found Items I could not belive were hit, and some were not hit, they just died on the side of the road. No markes or bruises or broken bones. I found a baby badger last year that looked like it just died on the side of the road from fright I figure. It is a funny way to collect critters, I didn't get the nickname for nothing either.
Made lots of money off good roadkilled mink, Raccoons, foxes, and Phesants.
Have fun and enjoy your trip. look at more than the road though.

Yeah i gotta admit you do find some cool stuff at the side of the road, why just the other day i found a human body which i have now stuffed (in more ways than one!) and is resting in the freezer!
