Bear Rug-from raw to done

Submitted by Christopher on 09/04/2003. ( ) 207.16.106.91

I was wondering if anyone knows of a company that would take a raw
skin, tan it and do the mounting for a rug, it's a pain to ship it out
to the tanner, return shipping then ship it out to the rug guys then
have return shipping on that... I don't have time to make the rugs
myself anymore but still wish to offer it to my customer, but as you
all know today shipping costs are just killing alot of profit.
Does anyone use "Big Bear Fur Dressing" and do they take frozen raw
hides...thank you

I had great luck sending a fleshed and salted Maine Bear lats winter, quick turnarouns, very reasonable prices, and whenever I called Todd Fortman, he made me feel as though my rug was the his top priority, Good luck

MY experience...

...tells me that you should compensate yourself for the "pain" by increasing your prices of doing them. I've used several "one stop shopping" places in the past and all their work was substandard to those places who specialized in tanning OR in rug making. Just my opinion.

Give Jeff a call at 1-208-263-1900, he is in Idaho, he will take your green fozen hide, and give you back a costumer ready rug. Does great work in a reasonable time. He does 30 rugs a year for me, give him a call, Tim

I have used Big Bear Rugs in Montana, and they are awsome! They want the bear fleshed and salted however.
