Please help me preserve a hedgehog!

Hello! I'm the Education Coordinator at a zoo and I'm desperately trying to preserve a hedgehog skin. Our vet was kind enough to get most of the tissue off (I can get the rest), but I have no idea where to go from there. I've heard that you can simply place the hide, spines down, into a piece of styrafoam, and then sprinkle borax onto it, but I did not receive any information as far as how much, how long to leave it on, etc. Will this work? I've never heard of using borax before. Please help me! This would be great for educational purposes - any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Borax as a hide preservative

If you use the borax, sprinkling it on is not good enough. Rub it into the skin the idea being that the skin would retain some borax after drying. -Aaron H.
