Putting Quail in Bobcats Mouth

Submitted by WBHarness on 11/04/2003. ( ) 216.61.219.179

Whats the best way to secure a quail in a bobcats mouth. I have mounted several cats and quail, but never put one in the cats mouth. The cat has already been mounted, (open mouth of course), and I am going to mount the quail tomorrow. Thanx and GOD Bless.

A bird in the mouth is worth 2 in the bush

WB, George Roof had a great answer for this a while back, mount that bird around a body shaped from a sponge, insert into the mouth- simple and very nice result. Enjoy, Aaron H.

If you are familiar with old school...

I did a coyote with a grouse not long ago. I wrapped the bird body
out of excelsor. once the bird is mounted, place it in the mouth
to dry. because the excelsor is soft, you can squeeze the body. this
give you a "form fit" and you can then remove the bird in a couple of
weeks to do any finish work. the k9 teeth are enought to hold the bird
in place.

I think I said I used pillow poly-fill to "stuff" the bird. I'm sure Perry's idea would also work, but I don't see excelsior having the flexibility of the polyfill. The beauty of it is that you can "over stuff" your bird and still compress it to fit the mouth. When you do, it immediately expands to fill all those voids. Most wrapped bodies I've seen are almost as rigid as the foam forms.

Its all in how tight you wrap it......

I like the poly fill idea george, but I had some fine excelsor laying around begging to be used up, so.....
