When i order a mannikin for a lifesize black bear, how many inches + or- can the mannikin be on the length? My bear is 58" the form that i want is 55". Will this form have to be altered? Also from nose to eye is 4 1/2 inches. Will 4 3/4 work? will it look right? I'm getting my first bear mounted. I looked at the catalog to pick the pose I wanted. (I'm letting someone else mount it)The one I like has these slightly different measurements. Thank you for any input!

did your taxidermist say? You seem to be a very picky person, Is the guy that's mounting it the cheapest you could find? I'm not trying to be a d!ck but I personally would be offended if I had a customer come on here and ask your question. To answer your question, it may have to be altered to some extent but nothing serious and it will look O.K. if your taxidermist has done bear before. Have you seen pictures of his work? Please, I'm interested in knowing why you are asking this question. Thanks John
If you're having this bear mounted by a taxidermist, isn't it the job of your taxiderist to pick the form according to your desired pose and then he/she should be able to altler it as needed? I don't believe it proper to figure all of this out for him or her. If I had a customer do this, I would pass on up this particular job.
Like John said, If you've seen this taxidermists work and it is of good quality, and the taxidermist has a good reputaion, your bear should be in good hands. If you're getting a deal or this is a questionable situation, I would ask myself if the risk is worth ruining your trophy. I believe you get what you pay for in taxidermy.... Most of the time.
Check out this taxidermists work and ask for a list of references. Spend your time doing some research on the taxidermist and his work, not learning to do the taxidermy work for your taxidermist.

...crack me up. I think the guy is just trying to get away as cheap as he can (no alterations). Let him get what he pays for, no need to slam him.
If you have the low ball price in town I would rethink your taxidermist choice, and find one that's done alot on bear. Not everyone can do bear as good as the do deer.
The taxidermist gave me a Rayline catalog to look at to pick the pose I would like. I found one I like. The measurements are a little off of the measurements of my bear. I just wanted to know if it would matter. I found another mannikin that is almost perfect but I like the other pose better. My taxidermist has mounted about 18 life size bear before. Also several rugs and half-mmounts. He's been in business about 3 years. I work with his brother and, yes, I get a better price than other customers. He's done several deer for us and I like his work. I just wanted the bear to look right if I chose a form with slightly different measurements. I don't want the taxidermist to do alot of extra work altering the form since I get a discounted price.
Hope this helps you understand my questioning.
