What is the best solution for cleaning smoke and dust out of a mount? Is there any home cleaning supplies that can be used? Thanks for your input. :)

I blow them off good with the air compressor. then wipe them down with a good bath of laquer thinner. Keep the thinner away from the painted areas.

cleaning old mounts

Jerry, Depends on what kind of mount you have. For deer heads I brush and blow out the dust then I use a good quality shampoo on a damp rag. Wipe it down well then use a clean cloth to rinse it still wipeing it down. Beware of loose hair and be carefull of painted areas. Dry with a blow dryer and finish with a bug treatment. For most other mounts it will depend on how sturdy they are and if they are removeable from the base. Old furbearers can be shampooed and blown dry if they aren't too fragile and fish can be washed carefully but may need touchup or reglossing (this can lead to problems if you don't know what kind of paints were used). Enjoy, Aaron H.

Thanks for all the input guys. I checked the archives but was wondering if there was a new and improved way. Guess you can't beat some of the tried and true ways though. :)
Thaks again
