Terry,

Slow your fleshing process down a little, make sure that the skin is pulled tight, check the sharpness of your knife, razor or whatever you are using to flesh with, lighten up on the pressure of your fleshing tool and check the angle at which you are holding your fleshing tool; too much of a more upward angle causes the fleshing tool to cut improperly and gathers the skin into one spot where repeated strokes of the knife wear it thin and creates a hole.

Don`t worry about fleshing the face until after it`s tanned...You`ll find it alot easier to deal with after it`s tanned and you do your skin prep work..coyotes have very little fleshing requirements on their face anyhow...just a very thin red layer of muscle..any tanning agent will penetrate it fine without fleshing...tan--then thin...

membrane ok

have mounted a bunch of dp deer over the years - at first a made every effort to get the memebrane off - don't work that hard at it anymore (i do have rotary knife tho) - don't think it matters - it is NOT flesh but a tupe of sinew - when it dres it is stable - it does shrink tho and you have to allow or take precautions
