help with grey fox

Submitted by robert c on 12/24/2003. ( wildlifecreations1@hotmail.com ) 12.222.109.30

I was skinning out a grey fox the other day and was having trouble with turning the ears. I got one turned all the way, but the other still has about an 1/8 of an inch left in the very tip. I soaked in kemal 4 and water, still no good, sooooooo I went ahead and placed it into the tan, (krowtan} Is there a chance that it will turn the rest of the way and NOT SLIP, or what? I forgot to mention that the fox has been in the freeze for 2 years.Any imput, thanks in advance. Bob

freezer burn is the culprit

seems the first thing to freezer burn or dry out in the freezer is those ears and lips, if ya didnt cause any slippage from over handeling those ears they will be fine to split after the krow treatment, i use it on my small critters including fox, and usually
never split out to the very edges until after tanning, especially
the slippy eared foxes, u can expect a full tan in this thin skinned area and then handle them longer with out slippage problems associated
with the raw skin. good luck paul
