How Mr. Huffman is doing his mammal ears you are going to have to ask the man himself.
There are different techniques out there to do those ears. I don't think there is one single techinique that stands out above all others.
No matter which technique you use, it is how you use that matters.
I prefer to use critters clay in my small mammal ears and had great success with it. I can get them extremely thin and smooth with this method which is important for competition. it has its drawback though. Easy to break is one of them. But at least they are easily fixed also.
Others use apoxie sculpt for the ears, bondo, earliners. Ken Walker now he uses different methods altogether. But then again he is one of a kind artist too.
You are going to have to try all the methods and then see which will suit your needs the best.
Sorry I couldn't give you a more concrete answer.
with limited earliners to fit mammals i choose apoxie sculpt, you can make it thin and position it many ways
Could silicone sealant be used in the ears so that they can still remain flexible?
No it doesn't make good for an ear.................
I do all my mammal ears with a material called fabric form. It's easy to shape and size. I make original ear liner for every item I mount. This material works great on huge ears such as a Kudu or on tiny ears for a squirrel. If someone near you is giving a seminar using this technique, it would be worth you time to attend. It is too lenghtly to explain, and easy once you've seen it done.
works great and the Epo-Grip holds it tight
