What is the best technique for preserving/reproducing the tail of an opossum?

Opossum Tail

I've done several opossum's using the real tail. Make sure you scrape off all and any meat and fat from the skin. It tanned up fine. You'll have to split the tail, which I cut the underneath the tail to hide the seam. Then blend in the colors back with an airbrush. Or you can reproduce it, then just attach the artifical one to the mount.

Yes as what coyote said, the real tail works real well, it looks a lot better than an artificial, it will lose some collor but with a little care can touch up very nice, make the stitches colse and tight on the underside, i use a wire wraped in clay for the insides when mounting. Matt
