My son found a squirrel tail in our yard and wants to keep it. Does any one know how to clean it or if there is a reason I should say no?

You MUST get the tail bone out of the tail. If it's cut flush with the tail base, then start skinning it down the length of the tail a little until you can get a pair of pliers on the tailbone. Holding the skin in one hand so your grip is around the tailbone (gripped between your thumb and forefinger), pull the tailbone with the pliers, the skin will start to bunch behind your fingers as the tailbone comes out. With the tailbone out, sprinkle in some borax powder, use a pencil or coathanger wire to make sure the powder get to the end of the tail..
Good luck
secure the tailbone to something like a piece of wire nailed to a bench , wrap wire verry good around tailbone. skin down a little ways then use your thumbnails bunch up as much hide as you can try to push it off , like you were takin off a sock. you will feel it break lose and the tube will come right off.
