Hello,
I've sent a fox skin to the tannery after salt drying it but have a small problem. when I skinned this animal I did not split the tail at all. I salted using a salt water mix and poured down the tail where the bone came out. Once dried fully the tail cracked and broke about 3 inches up from the tip. My question is this. The tannery is going to tan the tail in 2 pieces for me but I need a bit of info on the repair work. I'm not quite sure how to do this. I know i learned a valuble lesson. I believe that all my mammals will be split and resewn. Thought I was going to make the job easier by leaving it whole but as I found out this will not be the case .....
Thanks guys, Lance

You should be able to sew it back on with out to much trouble. Thats how I have done it. Jack F
And then sew the short end on to the large end. Then sew up your split. I hope you learned that the most direct way isn't always the best way. All animal tails should be split before tanning. I, of all people, know it's a royal pain in the rear to sew them back up, but life sucks sometimes. You just have to do it.
