Softening coyote skin,

Submitted by Joey Font on 01/25/2004. ( ) 69.40.137.190

I tanned a coyote with Lutan-F. I oiled it after tanning with para- soft from Knoblochs. I let it dry then rehydrated it. I now want to have a softened hide. Can I just break the hide when it is about dry without adding any other oil while breaking or should I use some oil while breaking? Can I use the para-soft oil while breaking if I need to or should I use neetsfoot oil? Thanks. JF

no additional oil, break it in your tumbler {with a pair of old sneakers} when it cracks white when pulled, or simply break up and soften those thin skins by hand or by pulling over a dull cleaver or froe. I just reread your post, you rehydrated it? I'm going to assume you made it wet again? hang it to dry until it cracks white when pulled and do above
