Question for John C

Submitted by Clinton on 01/28/2004. ( ) 206.172.124.132

John thanks for the response on my fox question a cuople of days ago. You said that I need the stuff called Krowtann. Is this the only thing I need to properly prepare this fox for mounting, because another person answered saying that I need to prepare it in the same manner as I would A deer cape. So I'm a bit unsure. Anything to add would be good....

Thank You
Clinton

Krowntann is simple, skin the fox and put it in the solution

You can go the long hard way ut why? Doing a Fox the way you do a deer you run the risk of slippage.

With KROWTANN, mix the KROWNTANN as per directions, skin the fox splitting the ear, lips etc.

Wash out any blood with cold water only, put the fox directly into the KROWTANN and stir, I use my hand in a rubber glove, just work the fox around in the KT for 2-3 minutes, this will set the hair. Then stir 2-3 times perday after the 3rd day, flesh it out and mount.

SO SIMPLE! I will never go through the long risky steps of normall tanning again on deer and smaller skins.

what about shaving

John does the skin not have to be shaved thinner than its original thickness, or is it already thin enough. Thanks for your help by the way.

Just enough to remove the membrane.

You may need to thin the face and neckm the rest of the skin can be ran over with a wire wheel. it will just take a few minutes, dont allow any heat to build on the skin.
