I just finished mounting my second fox. But now the guard hairs are coming out. It was mounted saturday. Is it a lost cause now? or is there a way to stop it.
I did 2 foxes at the same time. Fleshed, salted till dry, rehydrated, pickled (watched ph) neautralized then tanned with lutan f. The first fox came out fine.
The first fox was prime skin, killed in December. The one that is slipping was shot in October. The skin was darker then the December fox. Does this make a difference not being prime?

How were they froze. Sometimes if there rolled up tight and then you unroll as it thaws the longer guard hairs can get stuck together and either be pulled out or become loose. This is one reason I try to freeze them flat. Just a thought.
Your fox may have not tanned as well as it should BUT (1)try not to touch it any more than necessary, (2) Set it in front of a fan on low, (3) Don't Touch IT For A WEEK, (4) make sure ther is good circulation of air to promote drying and (5) DON'T TOUCH IT. I know your pain (back when DP was good for me. But I bet it'll be O.K.. The hair that is still on it should stay in place. IF...you follow the above.
