coyote tanning problem ?

i recently purchased a wet tanned tide since then i let it dry completelt thinking i would make a hat out of it. But the problem is that when it dried it is very stiff. i know i can try to break it and just handle it and soften it but is there a way to make it a softer tan now maybe some kind of chemical ?
also is it possible to rehydrate this cape to the point it would be sellable as a good mountable hide again ?

is the " secret ingredient " you did'nt use. You had the perfect set up to soften it AS it dries , not AFTER. Rehydrate the skin and start over .

You may be able to rehydrate the skin and oil again then brake it as it dries. If not no real loss just end up as you started. Usually fur hats are garment tanned to start with a wet tan is not intended for the purpose of making a hat. Thought I might have seen this post before but then again may be crazy LOL. Good luck, Mark
