Ask For References

In addition to comparing the pictures on websites, remember to ask for references.
We chose our preservationist after rave reviews and picture sent by his references.
Some shops will not give references citing privacy issues
but you will find that happy clients are always willing to talk.

Preparing You Pet For Freeze Drying

This response submitted by Bob on 03/01/2004 at 19:04. ( ) 152.163.252.165

As soon as your pet passes away, ideally within the first hour, wrap and put him in a freezer. Delaying to freeze the pet will damage it's hair, body and diminish the quality of freeze-drying.

If you want to obtain bio sample from your pet for cloning purposes, it must be done BEFORE freezing.

CLEANING
Wipe off heavy soiling but DO NOT WASH your pet (the washing process may damage the pet, your preservationist will undertake cleaning, shampoo etc. after thawing)

WRAPPING
Wrap your pet in a couple of plastic bags, squeezeout air and seal tight(clean new garbage bags will do)

FREEZING
Place your wrapped and sealed pet inside a freezer ASAP.
A STANDARD FREEZER, like the freezer compartment in our fridge that is cold enough for frozen dinners, will do.

If your pet is at the vet, make sure it is wrapped and placed in a
freezer NOT a refrigerator/cooler type compartment used at some morgues. If your vet does not have a freezer, bring it home ASAP, wrap it and use your refrigerator's freezer.

RESEARCH
Once your pet is resting in a freezer, you have a couple of months.
Take the time to mourn and do the necessary research to find the freeze-dry preservation expert that is right for you.

ASK FOR REFERENCES
We were helped by kind and generous references who comforted as well as guided us. Beware of the shops that will not provide client references (no matter what their excuse).

BOB will continue to post links and information for your use.
