I have scanned all the polar bear rug posts I could find on this forum but I am still unclear. One post flat says you can't - the most you can legally do is donate it and take a tax write off.
Others seem to indicate you can if the rug was pre 1973 and already in the US. I have poured over goverment permit/reg sites and still can't find a definative answer.
I have a legal 1950's rug and live in the US, can I legally sell this rug to another person in the US? Not to be rude, but please don't reply unless you know without a doubt, other posts are filled with guesses.

Just go up top click on links and go to your state DNR and email them or call.Laws are hard to determine because of all the different states and opinions.I think or I heard wont help you in court.Good luck and keep a copy of the email you recieved or write down who you talked to and the time and date.
Just got off the phone with a USDFW field agent. Under current law, a polar bear rug can not be legally sold.
Seller and buyer beware!
It is not a state issue, It is federal.
There is no problem with selling a legally obtained polar bear rug withing the United States. Brad, please give me the number of the "field agent" you spoke with I would like to speak with him also as he is incorrect.
