Cougar Mounting

I was just wondering if Im not going to show the claws on my lion am I better off to cut the out and stitch them up to have a better shaped foot?

If it were me, I would remove the claws and sew up the holes. I do this on bobcats as well and it makes for a much nicer looking foot. Last year at the CAT show I saw several guys get points taken away from their mounts by leaving the claws in. Gary Powell was one of the judges and he said that if the claws were not meant to be shown then take them out. I followed his advice and what a difference!

Even when the foot is relaxed you can still see the tip of the claws(especially when their is weight on them)...I`m suprised a judge docked people for that...I do about 50 cats a year and have learned if ya just take your time with the claws "in" you can get an accuarate foot no problem..just don`t put too much clay/epoxie in them and set the claw before you put the clay in... good luck
