I thought that'd get your attention. Anyway, I caped my first javelina today and yes, they look like a beaver on crack. If you've never handled one, you really got to see these teeth/ tusks. Anyway, what a stinkin' li'l critter. I've been thru the archives and see frequent references to the skin gland. I figured I'd find it and could localize it by smelling my way around, but nope. The whole danged thing stinks. Can someone tell me where it is and specify what I need to do with it? The cape is in the salt and will be sent to a commercial tannery. Thanks in advance for the help, guys.

It's a broad flat gland on the animals rump. You can flesh it off of the skin. It's about three four inches in diamiter don'tt get any on the meat.
If you boil that gland it makes a very good broth.
Thanks, guys. this is a shoulder mount so it won't be a problem.
