i have always been kinda stuck in those traditional styles of taxidermy, however i decided to try one of the new cast nose lip systems. i thought it would be fairly easy but im not sure how to go about using them. like proper proceedures and when to do what.
traditional orders in which certain things get done dont seem to apply to these buggers. does any one make a video, pamphlet or a book that goes into some depth here. thanx

If so they're the next best thing to mouthcups. Not much science involved in it. You look at your specimen and remove everything that's supplied with the head. You MUST, however thin that edge down VERY THIN so as to fit up against the cast flanges otherwise it will look too thick. Super glue small segments down instead of working the whole piece. I'm not sure how much time it saves, but I do like the finished mouth look for commercial grade work. I just did a cougar and I'm fairly sure the slotting and tucking of conventional work would have been faster. BUT then, I'd have had to have done the mouth finishing.
if i heated it up could i open the mouth some or do you think it will break
It's a 4 piece set in a precast head.
i did a coyote with the cast lip and it worked very well. its a lot faster than doing it with apoxie scult...well it takes less time, but it cost about $40 more. your choice.
The "Cast lip" heads from McKenzie come with a full page instruction sheet on how to use them.Check the bottom of the box before throwing it away.The beauty of the system is that the mouth interior can be easily painted with the jawset removed,so there is no overspray on the teeth or gums.The jawset is reinstalled and there should be little or no interior putty and paint work or tooth cleaning.Once you have used them a couple times they go together really fast.I talked to a friend the other day,who mounted a mountain lion rug head in 2 1/2 hours-start to finish,including hide prep work.Some day time yourself building and finishing an open mouth the old way.
